Un-common sense.
"The public will read what they will read. And if you don’t like the marketplace, well, take your stall somewhere else."
One of the things I'm learning and relearning in Tech Writing is the primacy of Audience. Writing is _always_ an exchange between author(s) and audience. If you have both, you're done. You don't need anyone else, their permission or approval. Too many people seek authority in other people's writing mostly because they'd like a bigger audience of their own. It's hard to find and serve an audience, especially a paying audience. They would like to influence you to consider them first.
It's tough out there.
Everyone plays the "Hey look at me, I'm the real (insert compliment)." - it's advertising.
If you are interested in writing, steel yourself for this because its just a fact of life, or "lie" as the case may be . Seems you get a lie by taking the "F" out of life .
